Dude. I listened to your song last night and it moved me, the way a breeze does a speck of dust. A gentle push that causes a major displacement.

I am totally displaced from the state I was before I heard you sing. It’s been ten years and I had almost forgotten how talented you are. Why did you stop bro? This is where you must be. With a voice like that, everything else you have is extras, this is your true gift.

But wait, I know why you stopped. When we are given talent God does not ask where the money is- He gives it freely. The challenge often is that life forces us to chase the weak little puny giftings we have that promise us financial gain.

Puts food on the table, but throws magic out the window.

So I have not replied to your Skype message because I am still trying to figure out how to tell you this. As the editor of a lifestyle, arts & culture magazine I hear a lot of new music all the time. A lot of it is below average. Very rarely does one encounter true talent.

I should have told you this many years ago when we were sitting on that veranda in Matsheumhlope, but I didn’t and I am telling you now. And as I tell you I am also telling every other person out there who knows they are talented for something…

Run.

Run like last night’s supper is forcing its way out of you and you need to get to the loo. Run like they are closing the door to your supply of air and you need to get there before the lock clicks into place.

Run towards your talent and don’t stop no matter what. Run until you can share the magic I witnessed last night with the world and bless it with the treasure that the universe has entrusted you with.

Waste it not, otherwise I will come there soon and kick your ass into action.

Run bro, run.
