ZITA is a membership driven theatre association that was formed in 2008. ZITA’s aim is to promote and protect the interests of the Zimbabwean theatre sector. In 2008 a committee that was led by Mr. Josh Nyapimbi was elected and has been in the forefront of running the affairs of the association. ZITA acknowledges and appreciates the role that has been played by the previous committee despite the challenges that have stifled the growth of the association.
In September 2014 the association held an elective general meeting where a new management committee was elected. This management committee is made up of Daniel Maposa ( Chair), Elizabeth Muchemwa ( Vice Chair), Ephraim Vhutuza, Leeroy Gono, Michael Khetani Banda, Sheila Bengula and Aubrey Kamba. The committee has a two year term that will end in September 2016.
The Committee, during its two year term is tasked with the following;
• Ensure formal Registration of the Association with key bodies like the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe
• Spearhead the review and ratification of the Association’s constitution by the membership
• Membership drive
• Setting up of structures around Zimbabwe
• Host a National Theatre Indaba
• Host an Annual General Meeting
• To fundraise for the Association’s operations and activities
It is expected that in these two years the committee will have achieved the seven points on the road map that they were presented with at the Elective Annual General Meeting.
