“This is a great way to the start the morning. They’ve definitely woken all of us up! This is why I came out this morning, for some energy and music,” said Sekai, visiting HIFA from her current home in Philadelphia.

International touring group, Bongo Love, who have performed to sold out shows in venues like Madison Square Gardens in New York City, brought a freshness and vibrancy to the Coca Cola Green stage in their first ever HIFA performance.

Despite their 10am start, the afro-fusion group got the audience to their feet with their classics like ‘Rwendo’ and ‘Ekhya’, with the audience joining them singing “All we need is love, peace and harmony.”

They also introduced songs from their newly released album, “Bongo Love.”

2006 Music Crossroads winners, Bongo Love is a fusion of guitar and traditional African instruments, mbira, djembe, and the marimbas, this time joined by drummer and dancers.

“Their music is unique – I’m used to bands with keyboards, guitars but their instruments are different and you can hear the fusion,” said Frederick from Harare.
