In the last five years there hasn’t been a standout female dancehall act in Zimbabwe.

There have been a few insipid attempts by a number of one hit makers who rarely last beyond two songs.

However, this year has seen the rise of a very unique chanter, Anita Jaxson.

Unlike her female peers who competed mainly amongst themselves, Anita’s dexterity can cause one or two established male acts to cringe if they were told they were sharing the stage with her.

After dropping over three solid tracks which include some sweet collaborations over the past few weeks, Anita has set herself up as one of the outstanding female acts in 2020 across all genres.

Next week she will be lighting the stage up with her debut performance at Shoko Festival.

Running under the theme ‘Phoenix Edition’, Jaxson will be sharing the stage with two of the hottest acts on the dancehall scene, Jah Master and Poptain.

If Anita can sustain her current form in the game she can easily become a force to reckon with on the local music scene.

“As Shoko Festival we’re all about pushing the boundaries of what’s possible and what can be performed. Because of Covid-19 we’ve had to pivot our programming and its challenged us to come up with a brand new virtual programme of cutting edge curated events, brand new musical collaborations, daring comedy game shows and an inspiring digital conference tool,” says Shoko Festival director, Comrade Fatso.

This year’s edition of Shoko Festival will see a mixture of new and old formats as we optimise the experience for the streaming audience on Facebook and other online platforms. Digital attendees can expect amazing live performances, Peace In The Hood, Mash Ups Night, The Bang Bang Comedy Show, a Digital Poetry Slam, a Top Comedian Battle, #DigitalMediaWeek hosted by The Hub Unconference, a #ZimbabweanLivesMatter cypher and the Voice2Rep competition amongst many other scheduled presentations.
