Freshly Ground, landed in Harare this afternoon but will not be performing. Instead, a special show of various HIFA artists will take their place.

This is at least the second time the South African group has been barred from performing in the country after releasing their controversial 2010 ‘Chicken to Change’ track.

The song pokes fun at President Mugabe and speaks of him as a leader who was once a ‘super nova’ but fell from grace during his long tenure as the country’s leader.

In a statement sent out to the press this evening HIFA confirmed this turn of events. “Freshly Ground arrived at the airport but will not be performing,” said the statement in part.

Festival goers who do not wish to attend the replacement show will be refunded on Monday, May 6, at 11am at the HIFA box offices.
