Change is part of humanity. It has been proven on countless occasions that those who resist it because of ignorance, stubbornness or whatever the case may be, become irrelevant over time. However, it is never easy for those involved to shift to new systems as the question of whether they are making the right decision lingers in their minds.

This we believe is the scenario in which Selmor Mtukudzi finds herself or was in just a few months back.

Before her father, the late national hero, Dr. Oliver Mtukudzi passed, Selmor was already buzzing on the local music scene. In fact when Samanyanga passed she was on tour in the UK.

But, since the death of her father, Selmor has seemingly changed her groove. We knew her as an Afro-pop act but now she is drifting towards her father’s sound.

She has partnered with her late father’s former band members on several occasions and delivered stellar performances which have left audiences in awe.

Late last year she recorded an album with some of the aforementioned musicians. The album which is her sixth was produced by another musician who once worked with Tuku and produced some of his albums, Steve Dyer.

So already one can tell the sound she will produce here will be very different.

The new album titled ‘Dehwe ReNzou’ will be launched this Friday at the Exhibition Park, in Harare.

“Veteran Black Spirits members Picky Kasamba, Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure also featured on the album. Picky Kasamba did backing vocals and percussion whilst Never Mpofu and Sam Mataure played bass and drums respectively,” read a statement from Selmor’s management.

For those who loved Selmor’s old vibe no worries. The album has a house track which was produced by renowned producer, McDee. So you are covered.
