Bulawayo has always been known for its vibrant arts sector, with Poetry being a defining element of Ndebele art forms. Today they will be put to the test when they come up against poets from Zimbabwe’s capital Harare.

This is however a extravaganza with a difference – it’s a Digital Poetry slam.

The audience are the judges, from the comfort of their homes.

The initiative started when Page Poetry Alive hosted the first ever digital poetry slam in Zimbabwe titled “Slam.ZW – The Lockdown Poetry Knock-Outs” in May and partnered with Moto Republik.

Poet, Umind gave us a rundown of who to expect at the Slam, “We are hosting this on the Shoko Festival Facebook page on Monday 21 September. We have Madzitatiguru, well known Zimbabwean Slam champion (Nyanzvi ), as the Slam Master.”

“Representing The City of Kings and Queens are Sox the poet, Delah Dube, Tinkie Thando and award winning poet Tinashe Tafirenyika. From the Sunshine City we have Kuda Rice, The Unspoken, Shaldo and Banshee,” she added.

The show is a collaboration of three institutions namely, Page Poetry Alive, Shoko Festival and Nhimbe Trust.
