Currently one of Bulawayo’s most sought after groups and a formidable force regards jazz music in Zimbabwe – The Outfit band is promising fireworks when it comes to stage its debut performance at the Zimbabwe Jazz Festival, slated for this Saturday at Alliance Francaise.

This will also be the first time the band will be performing in the capital this year.

“We are very excited about coming back to perform in Harare, particularly at the Jazz Festival,” said the group’s spokesperson, Blessing Stot aka Stot Bass.

He also shared his gratitude to the organisers of the event for selecting them to be part of the festivities.

“We are so grateful to the Zimbabwe Jazz Community Trust and French Embassy for doing this event as well as inviting us. These platforms keep us going and sustain the belief in jazz.

“Fans should come ready for a great show and new wonderful music.”

However, since dropping their debut album in 2014, the inimitable band has not been releasing fresh material. Are they done with jazz?

“We have been working with several artists in studio and at live shows for a couple of years now. Upon coming back to focus on our music and our second album, we looked at the evolving industry and decided to take a small detour,” explained Stot.

He also revealed that whilst in the cycle of evolution, a project was birthed.

“There is a new baby called Ngoma iNgoma which we are looking to introduce to Harare at this festival.

“It’s music with a foundation of jazz fused up with some Afrocentric and pop sounds. We are not abandoning Outfit or Jazz though.

“A jazz album is actually in the pipeline. We hope Harare will accept this new music and support it. We are very confident of it,” shared Stot.
