Zimbabwe’s worsening socio-political and economic situation continues to provoke the voices of many artists who are traditionally scared to dabble in such issues. A group of artists under the ABRA Tribe banner have broken their silence and yesterday dropped a song and music video that will certainly get the nation talking.

Titled Varozvi, the highly politically charged song directly confronts the Socio-Economic and humanitarian struggle facing Zimbabweans. The single by Moyondizvo formerly Roby Gee featuring MC/Singer Songwriter & Producer ZiMM Wamambo mirrors the country’s perennial problems with the recent wave of protests and police brutality playing prominence in both lyrics and accompanying visuals.

The track was produced by Tawanda Sibotshiwe popularly known as Jusa Dementor. The song’s instrumental composition is an exceptional infusion of Zimbabwean instruments with Hip Hop, which Moyondizvo compliments with spectacular vocals, that could be described as an ancestrally possessed performance with traditionally inspired chants that touch the very soul of every Zimbabwean. In true Hip Hop fashion, ZiMM delivered an unrivaled 32 bars which incorporated an abundance of synonyms woven with proverbs in shona proudly boasting his heritage. As if choosing his motherland as his stage name was not sufficient, his energy and passion in the song was as captivating as that of a general rallying the troops for war. The song is genuinely and undeniably a patriotic piece of work.

The video, a Stageworks Production, was directed by Jusa Demantor and captures the content of the song with images that illicit emotional reaction from the hearts and minds of its viewers.

“The inspiration was really brought to play by Moyondizvo who approached me with the concept of the song. I took the lead in creating the instrumentation but was more stimulated in creating the visuals. This song expresses my frustration in being in the diaspora and missing out on growing up in my own country. I also believe fear is a luxury most of our generation cannot afford anymore”, narrated Jusa the Zimbabwean multi-award winning UK based music and video producer who is famed for the Rise up Zimbabwe song that features Red Rat and recently Mukoko by Tytan and Ammara Brown among many other.

In a statement, Abra Simz one of the founders of the creative movement expressed his pleasure of working on the project saying, “This is what music is, a way of expressing dreams, hopes, desires and sometimes dismay or fraustration. Its hip hop in its purest form.”
