Said Tinashe to Zimbo Jam, “The reason we made this track was to lift up the spirits of our people. Our message is to tell our fellow Zimbabweans: let’s not complain but be involved in rebuilding our economy, be proud of our education, who we are as a people.”

The beginnings of this track came about a couple of years ago when Anton first visited Zimbabwe with his family. He tells us he was inspired by the fact that there seemed to be so much passion and talent just itching to be heard. He and his wife combined their inspiration into this song and developed the lines and melodies together.

Anton told us, “The people of Zimbabwe seemed to have such a love for their land and such a beautiful way of expressing it. So much of the track was written a while ago where it simmered away until I showed it to Tinashe.

“Once he got his hands on it, put his magic touch to the lyrics and melody, the track really took off. He’s an artist who is so passionate about his country and the people who live there.

Of working together on the track, Ammara said, “It was spontaneous and so worth it!”

Tinashe raved about working with Ammara saying, “Ammara was so gracious about the whole thing. I remember calling her and asking if she was spontaneous enough to jump on the track at such short notice. I was basically throwing it out there with all I had. I only had one opportunity to talk to her, so I was pretty excited that she was open to working on it.

“She really wanted to give it her best. Although we were running against time, as Anton had to leave Zim, she was bold enough to request a day to work on the song before we recorded. I’m really grateful she takes her craft seriously no matter what.”

Echoed Anton, “Ammara took the track away with her for a couple of days, came back to our humble little makeshift studio, and ‘bam!’ added another amazing dimension to the track. She’s a vocal force to be reckoned with!”

Roar Zim, Roar!
