Fans of musician Andy Muridzo have hit out at him, calling him foolish for cheating on his wife, after a video and pictures of her apparently catching him at his girlfriend’s house and screaming for him to come back home ‘to his children’ broke the Zimbabwean internet on Thursday and Friday.
Muridzo allegedly abandoned his wife, Chido Manyange, aka Mai Keketso, and moved in with a woman known as Nyari Mukucha. Mai Keketso followed him to Mukucha’s flat in Harare’s Avenues neighbourhood and created a scene outside, asking for her husband to come back home.
There are also pictures of a man who is said to be Mukucha’s brother, kicking a man who looks like Muridzo on the ground.
Muridzo’s girlfriend is a well-to-do woman and some speculations are that he is chasing her money. It seems this whole thing blew up after a woman called Mamoyo Liny Chimutengo posted pictures of Muridzo in his girlfriend’s house and captioned them saying the singer had run away from home and was staying with a girlfriend, although she used another choice word to describe Muridzo’s lover.
Muridzo, seeming to make light of the issue, has made two humorous posts on Instagram in the last twenty-four hours. In one he is acting like a drunk man entering his home. The man’s housemaid and her friend, who are watching TV in the lounge, greet him as he enters. He holds a bottle of some strong liquor and proceeds to the bedroom where he calls out for his ‘dilution.’ Goodness knows what that is. The ‘maid’ comes to Muridzo’s aid but the video cuts before we see what she is going to do.
This has fuelled speculation that maybe this is all a publicity stunt.
Fans, meanwhile, are upset by Muridzo’s latest kerfuffle.
One fan, commenting, on Instagram, said, “From a general perspective no family would want their daughter to end up with a man anoita zvemangoma. As a result, I want to believe Mai Keketso fought for your honour in front of her family. Before you had money uchiri kugarisana nevamwe 4/4 mukombi Mai keketso was there for you. Mari muyenzi Andy, don’t let it get to your head. Don’t lose sight of the most important things in life my guy. Siyana nevakadzi vane mari dzausingazive source yadzo and focus on your music and family.”
Another fan said, “I’m so disappointed with you. But why? Your wife is so beautiful and pretty why do that to her Andy? Ma1.”
One Lynn Chiyangwa challenged Muridzo, asking why he was making his wife cry “after she had given him a son.” She warned him that he would die poor and ended, “Uri stupeti (You are stupid) haikona.”
“We respected and loves you even in your dark times – until yesterday, “wrote Boniface Musvaire, “Leaving your wife for some rich woman… mere question you should ask yourself is who made that woman rich. You like big beds with headboards, buy yourself one. I’m unbelievably hurt by your lack of thinking and your inability to understand life in general.”
Lee Majuru also did not mince her words; “Andy, u are a disappointment to your family and country as a whole, nxaa.”
Muridzo is no stranger to controversy. Earlier this year The Standard reported that a businessman who had been paying his rent in a Hatfield house was pulling out of the deal as Andy had not been professional in their dealings. Muridzo’s manager, Simbarashe Norman Nyaunga, disputed the claim, saying that the businessman wanted to use Muridzo and that Muridzo was able to pay the rent on his own.
In March, Muridzo announced he was thinking off pulling out of Jah Prayzah’s Military Touch Movement, claiming that Jah was not meeting his side of the deal. “I no longer want anything to do with MTM,” Muridzo told The Sunday Mail. “I have a five-year contract that I signed last year though I’m working on terminating it… Not a single thing I was promised on the contract has been fulfilled. Actually, Jah Prayzah wants all the good things for himself. He is not willing to assist others and is not a saint as most of you imagine him to be.”
But it’s Muridzo’s issues with women that have raised the most dust. In 2016, Muridzo and dancer, Beverley Sibanda, had an adulterous affair. Bev reported that she was madly in love with Muridzo. She later claimed that she was pregnant by him and the subsequent fall out led to a public apology from Muridzo. Sadly, Bev miscarried. In January this year, The Daily News wrote that Muridzo had paid lobola for Mai Keketso, “in a bid to reassure her that his affair with Bev was over.”
Muridzo also posted pictures of him and his wife on a date to prove that she was the one and only.
In March this year, Muridzo was rumoured to be having an affair with another woman, South Africa-based reggae artist, Sengeziwe Sibanda, popularly known as African Queen. Rumours started circulating that the two artists were an item after pictures of them together made the rounds on social media. Sibanda denied the claims, “He inspires me and a photo with him is all I wanted, but now, people say we are seeing each other,” was her response. “The rumours have affected my life and career. The song I did with Andy has been put on hold because of such bad publicity.”
Muridzo continues to put many on hold, including fans who are waiting to find out what the end game after this latest burst of media attention.
