Prudence Katomene-Mbofana, Hope Masike, Tariro neGitare and Kudzai Sevenzo, each one a musical illumination in their own right, are coming together for a collaboration which promises to be artistically explosive.

It all started about three weeks ago on September 19 when at 0859hrs Sevenzo (@KudzaiSevenzo) tweeted, “Itching to do a show with some phenomenal women I know @tarironegitare @PkmAfroJazz @HopeMasike. Wat u say ladies?”

The other three ladies were immediately excited by the idea and so were a number of fans who saw the tweet and encouraged them to go ahead with it. One of these fans was Buhle Moyo who tweeted, “Please say yes ladies, then you can do a phenomenal ladies’ gig.”

It looks like Moyo will get her wish.

Ten days later, the four musicians met at a Harare restaurant to discuss the plan. The chemistry in the group was immediately obvious and things started falling into place. They started working out a road map to their first concert together.

By October 4, they were at FungaiFoto Studios at the Zimbo Jam offices getting a photoshoot done and they are now asking their fans to suggest a name for their group.

Zimbo Jam caught up with them and asked about their new initiative. This is what they had to say:

Kudzai

“I’m really thrilled to be working with these amazing artists. It started as a suggestion on twitter, but the response we got from the general public was really warm, we knew we HAD to make it happen. I am looking forward to this collaboration, with some of Zim’s celebrated ladies in music.”

Hope

“I’m thrilled because we didn’t wait for any promoter to find us, we just came together as musicians and things are falling into place so quickly, it’s really exciting.”

Tariro neGitare, Hope Masike, Kudzai Sevenzo, Prudence Katomene

Tari

“Im really looking forward to this collaboration. Seeing as though I am they youngest both in age and in music, i expect to learn a lot from these seasoned musicians. I also hope that the success of this production will also result in bigger career opportunities.”

Prudence

“For me, working with some of the fine female talent in the country is an opportunity I don’t want to pass. We have shared the stage on various occasions (e.g. Tuku Tribute, Bira Remadzimai, Denmark Tour) but it was under the direction of someone else. This time this is our brain child and I see that a common thread of thinking outside the box runs through all four of us and I love thinking out of the box.  I expect beautiful creativity and a musical experience like no other.”

Challenge for Fans

So the challenge for fans is can you suggest a name for this group of talented musical ladies? The winner will receive two tickets and backstage passes to their first concert and a hamper containing all their CDs.
