The 2013 edition of the NAMA awards was one of the best organised in the event’s history with an amazing entertainment line up, a convoy of limos and SUVs to drop artists off at the ceremony and a red carpet entrance.

Nominees from Harare travelled in a City Link luxury coach to Bulawayo and all visitors for the awards from outside Bulawayo were put up at the Bulawayo Rainbow Hotel, a move which was appreciated very verbally by the artists.

According to a statement from the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) received by Zimbo Jam this afternoon preparations for the 13th edition of the National Arts Merit Awards (NAMA) are on course.

The date is set, February 15, 2014.

Through NAMA the NACZ works to recognise excellence in creativity and talent across all arts disciplines in the country; visual arts, theatre spoken word, dance, literary arts, music and film.

“The major aim of the awards is to stimulate artistic creativity and originality,” says the NACZ statement.

The awards monitors have been commissioned and are out in the field interacting with and assessing various productions, products, presentations and exhibitions. Their names, as is the norm, are not given out to the public or media.

Meanwhile the NACZ is making a call for submissions of works for consideration at the awards ceremony. Works submitted should be accompanied with an entry form obtainable from the National Art Gallery and any NACZ offices throughout Zimbabwe.

· All entries must be accompanied by the artiste’s product(s).  These can be in the form of DVDs videotapes, flash drives, CDs, photographs, books, art works etc.

· Two sets of the particular works should be submitted for selection for NAMA in order to assist in the process of adjudication. NACZ reserves the right to retain the submitted works.

· Only Zimbabwean citizens or those with resident status can enter NAMA.

Mighty Movies will once again be the event managers for the NAMA awards and have lined up a series of events in the build up to NAMA in 2014 to be revealed to the public in due course.
