A new local soap called ‘Wenera’, is set to grace our ZTV television screens in mid-July.
The soap was produced and directed by Eddie Ndhlovu, and has a cast of more than twenty five characters. Some of the familiar faces on the screen are Eddie Sandifolo (Chabvonga in Tiriparwendo) and Denzel Burutsa (Jabulani in Studio 263).
Ndhlovu commented “this is a positive step towards reviving our television.” This new soap will initially run once a week on ZTV and will become a daily feature after the pilot season.
“Wenera is about activities that happen in the business world. Wenera Diamonds is the Musodza family’s empire. Their company is one of the fastest growing organisations in Zimbabwe. The show explores this family’s unique relationships and their approach to business. This is where all the drama lies” explains Ndhlovu.
Asked about what is different about this particular production, Ndhlovu said, “I cannot say it is different from other productions but what I can say is that Wenera is a product that the majority of our populace is going to be proud of. We are also looking to make it compete on international platforms thus we are using high quality cameras. We are going along with film trends from across the world. The idea is to create our own daily soap like Generations, Muvhango or Scandal.”
The soap is being produced by Talent of Steel, Ndhlovu’s production company. Talent of Steel is currently working on almost ten projects besides Wenera such as Live Wire, Our Big Fat Wedding and Bla Joe’s Night Spot. Keep an eye out for these productions.
