In no particular order here are five folks who have pushed the genre forward in 2020.

HOLY TEN

He is the hottest property on the market at the moment. The 21-year-old is doing the most when it comes to dropping emotive bars that leave one entangled in deep thought regarding matters of this life.

Like the script for many hit maker’s reads, Holy Ten has been in the game for a while but got the attention of the masses with his latest single, ‘Ndaremerwa’, which is accompanied by some really cool visuals.

NOBLE STYLES

This player has been at it for a while now.

His stubbornness and arrogance make him standout.

Lately he has been dropping controversial bars in his music as well as on his social media platforms that have sparked debate, earning him some serious credit on the streets, achingopika nagogo.

Never shying away from speaking his mind, he and Gze gave Zimbabweans something to listen and talk about after their juicy beef which saw some cool productions being churned out in the exchange.

ASAPH

If consistency was a person then it would be him.

Hailing from the city of queens and kings he has proved that he is indeed royalty and the rest are just rebels.

This year, the rapper has been topping charts with his single ‘Like so/Mhoroi’ and rocking the nation with his colleagues, Crooger and Ti Gonzi on ‘Ginde’. Recently he droppeded another sweet jam, ‘Asipheli Moya’.

They say you cannot keep a good man down and after being “Calvined” at the 2019 Zim Hip Hop Awards, the king has re-emerged, with more cream and class.

GZE

His one of the veterans in the game.

His laidback approach makes it seem as if it is easy to be a rapper. However, when you listen to his rhymes you begin to appreciate the depth of his artistry.

Similar to Holy Ten when the Gze spits you are thrown into that moment of reflecting on how and why certain things are the way they are in society and even in one’s personal life.

His latest single street logic is one track to feast on, daily.

The Dawg

This guy is just in a class of his own.

His silky smooth flow makes him turn heads.

The simplicity with which he approaches his craft which is laden with some sassy lyrics is just a sweet combination.

His major strength is that he has the hook factor.  When you listen to tracks such as the chart topping ‘Usandizembere’ and his January release, ‘Chimoto’ one can easily remember the choruses for both tracks.

He is definitely one to watch out for in the coming years. We also love his visuals.
