His hit single ‘Kure’ saw him scoop five gongs at the Star FM Music Awards, three at the ZIMA’s and two at the NAMA’s.

However, as the awards season ended in February, so did the name Ishan also varnish from the local music scene.

Apart from featuring in only one virtual concert over the past three months, Ishan has been missing in action.

This has left music lovers asking, is he still into music or his done or maybe he is one of those one hit wonder acts?

Zimbo Jam managed to chat with the singer who says he is still in the game and working on a business strategy for his music.

“My plan is to develop a long lasting career that is based on well thought out and well-arranged music that will stand the test of time,” said Ishan.

“The music business is quite complex, sometimes you make hits, sometimes the songs don’t become hits, but that doesn’t mean the music is bad. After Kure, I have released six more tracks and of those two have been in the top 10 on radio charts, which are Shore, and DJ CHRXN’s 1700. Besides, for one to last long in this business there has to be a gradual growth and I am playing for the long-term gains not short-lived hype.”

The laid back singer says he has been spending a lot of time in the studio and is sitting on a lot of material that can be released.

“There are a lot of factors that need to be considered so as to maximize on the full potential of a project. Sales don’t really mean much in the Zimbabwean context and you will find out that the majority of artists make music from gigs which are non existent at this moment. So there isn’t any revenue flow for the industry at the moment and that can limit the ability of what you can achieve as an artist,” expressed the singer.

As has become the common statement among many local acts, Ishan revealed that he too has his eyes on the international market.
“The scope is now not just Zimbabwe, our industry is just too small and the aim is to tap into different markets and when you aim to achieve that you have to make sure everything is in order.

“A song should be accompanied by a video and a whole bunch of other factors so that it can properly blow and we really want to do it right that’s why it seems like it’s taking time. But we definitely have material we are dropping and it will be worth the wait,” he explained.
