He was one of the top comedians in 2014/15 when the art form became a force to reckon with in the country via platforms such as Simuka Comedy, Bang Bang Comedy Club and Shoko Festival.

USA’s Sasha Emerson alongside Zimbabwe's Gideon Wabvuta, are facilitating the 2020 Almasi African Playwrights Conference.

They brought us Anne Kansiime and filled up the Harare International Conference Centre, a historic event as no comedy show to date has managed to attract such numbers. After that, they hosted USA based Zimbabwean comedian, Alfred Kainga at the Reps Theatre – the first time he had performed in the country and it was sold out, with many being turned away on the night.

2019 has been a tough year for many Zimbabweans as the economic meltdown made it difficult for people to plan things and with inflation skyrocketing, standards of living became deplorable.

Local comedians have been putting in a lot of work in the year 2019. Majority of them have featured in various gigs on the global stage with some even scooping accolades on the same platforms.

Whilst stage readings (a form of theatre without sets or full costumes) are not that popular in Zimbabwe, Almasi Collaborative Arts have consistently pushed them to allow scriptwriters and directors to sharpen their productions.

For a solid three months, a group of youngsters under the stewardship of Yeukai Chandiposha were working quietly on an arts nuke. Suddenly, the creatives launched their nuke at Reps Theatre and it caused pandemonium in theatre circles and Zimbabwe's creative and cultural industry at large.

Theatre enthusiasts are in for a treat next week as the inaugural edition of Mitambo International Theatre Festival roars to life.

Award-winning comedian, Carl Joshua Ncube has been very quiet in 2019. Well at least on the comedy scene.
