Armed with lethal vocals that have taken just under two decades to assemble, she has deftly managed to hypnotize music lovers with her marble eyes causing them to fall for her charm.
Even fellow artists are wondering where she came to rise so fast and begin to reign on the throne.
Well we are not too surprised because with the divine gifts she is endowed with, there is nowhere else for her to go to but the top.
This sweet narration summates the rise of little known, 20 year old Anaya who has a musical gift the world must hear.
Out of nowhere she has become a favourite amongst ZiFM Stereo listeners , steadily working her way to the top of the ladder on the stations weekly, Top 40 chart show.
As she enjoyed being on top of the trot on ZiFM this past weekend she also debuted on Power FM’s Hot 40 and it will not be surprising to soon see her ruling the roost on the Star FM Hit List with her hit single ‘Marble Eyes’, which was on number 11 last week.
So who really is this wonder lady?
“My name is Ananya Kouds I was born on the June, 1999 in Harare. I attended Hellenic school, and at 15 years old I moved to Switzerland to finish high school. I am currently studying Fashion Design at Parsons School of Design in New York City. My parents are Zimbabwean, as are my three siblings,” said Ananya.
She reveals that her music journey started at the tender age of seven.
“I started by learning the guitar and singing with my teachers Victor and Dereck Moyo. We would exchange songs we wrote and it continuously inspired me.”
The pop musician had a difficult time telling us who inspired her.
“Oh my goodness I’m not sure where to begin! Grace Jones, Norah Jones, Etta James, Freddie Mercury, Amy Winehouse, the list goes on,” she shared.
Her hit single ‘Marble Eyes’ is a well written track that is complemented by a simple but fitting EDM inclined groove.
Ananya took us through the creative process of how she writes her songs.
“Usually I sit at a piano, figure out the chords, then the melody, and then add what I’d like to express. I’m learning to discover new ways of creating as I believe every process has a different outcome.
“I’m currently working on more music and the next single will be dropping within the next few months.”
With perceptions towards art changing and more parents begin to realise there are more ways for their children to make a living outside the white collar route, the musician says her parents have been a pillar of strength.
“My family has shown immense support in all aspects regarding my career. They are my biggest fans. They’ve motivated me from the beginning and continue to do so every day,” she remarked.
On how she is feeling to be topping the charts and trending on all three urban radio stations and her vision she said, “It feels exhilarating. It’s all thanks to all who voted to help me get there. It’s an awesome feeling.
“My vision is to continue writing and creating music that others can relate to, dance to and feel for.”
