Zimbabwe Fashion Week Day TwoThings picked up pace on the second day of Zimbabwe Fashion Week, Thursday July 29, with four young designers showcasing their work. A show scheduled for the afternoon was cancelled so that a bigger show, featuring more designers could be held in the evening.

Models showcase Chipo BespokeThe first successful aeroplane, built by Wilbur and Orville Wright, took flight on  December 17, 1903. The duration of that first modern airborne adventure was twelve seconds- but it was a flight nonetheless. The first Zimbabwe Fashion Week (ZFW) was launched last night at a low key event at Harry Margolis Hall. It was not the huge  flight into fashion that the industry had hoped for- but it was a flight into fashion nonetheless.

On this list is the iconic film, National Defence, Africa’s oldest known animated film, released in 1939.

Zimbabwe German Society Hosts ZIBF Writers Meeting
The Zimbabwe German Society (ZGS), on the sidelines of the Zimbabwe International Book Fair (ZIBF), is today (July 29, 2010) hosting a meeting for writers at its offices in Milton Park, Harare. The meeting is meant to bring heads together to breathe new life into Zimbabwe's book industry. According to a statement from ZGS, "ZIBF cannot exist without writers and as such has seen a need to bring writers together and provide an opportunity to dialogue, network, get an update and chart a new way forward."
 
‘Arts & Culture Contribution to the Economy? Dunno!’ – Anthony Hawkins
Prominent Zimbabwean Economist, Professor Anthony Hawkins, has said that he has no idea how much arts and cultural industries contribute to the economy. “Nobody knows,” he said during a presentation on the state of the Zimbabwean economy held at the Meikles Hotel last night (July 26). The event, which drew over three hundred professionals and business people, was organised by the British Council’s Management Express programme.
